Myth Busting: Chemical Peels

Myth Busting: Chemical Peels

We know how important it is to personalise your skincare regime and for the best results, our 360° approach includes both at-home skincare and in-clinic treatments. In-clinic we hear you chorus? Yes! While at home skincare gets a lot of hype around here, in-clinic procedures performed by pros are, by definition, just too powerful to be done at home - think laser, injectables and chemical peels.

One of the only treatments able to dramatically impact the skin's surface, chemical peels are often made up of the same ingredients used in home skincare formulas to exfoliate, but in much higher percentages and within formulas that pack a punch. Chemical peels have a mixed reputation and some hefty myths attached. Are they scary and will they leave you red for days?  Are they worthy compared to their laser and injected in-clinic counterparts? We're here to bust some myths and set the record straight - what are chemical peels? How do chemical peels work and should YOU have a chemical peel? Let's answer all this and more…

Meet our NEW peel: Radiant TXA

For all skin tones, our new peel is formulated to address pigment issues with a triple brightening complex. Clinically validated to deliver serious results in clarity, brightness, and smoothness with both a single treatment and a course. Your pro will help you work out the best treatment approach for your skin goals.

   Expertly formulated with:

            • An impressive 1.95% Tranexamic Acid, a powerful brightening agent that reduces the appearance of discolouration.

            • A potent 30% Lactic Acid, an AHA that gently resurfaces for a luminous glow.

            • Brightening White Shiitake Mushroom that enhances overall radiance.

For all the skin science buffs out there, its low pH optimises absorption for maximum efficacy, but its multi-acid combination means it’s suitable for all skin types and tones, even if you’ve never had a peel before.

This amazing treatment can be done as a solo treatment in roughly 45 minutes, and you can carry on about your day, or it can be done as part of a wider treatment plan with other treatments like IPL and laser to boost the results of your medical-grade skincare at home.

What are chemical peels?

Think of a chemical peel as a refresh button – they clear away the dull, tired surface layer so your healthiest skin can shine through. It’s an intense exfoliation experience, but chemical peels are now so advanced that there’s minimal downtime and we always tailor our peels to your exact skin needs. Chemical peels utilise BHA and AHAs to exfoliate skin – removing dead skin cells, clearing congestion, and speeding up your skin’s natural renewal process. Professional peels can also firm the skin, target uneven skin tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores, and leave your skin smoother, brighter, and more refined. In short – if you want natural-looking results and a non-invasive treatment – chemical peels are your jam.

Chemical peel myth-busting

Myth 1: My skin will peel off afterward

Advanced, modern-day peels have been designed to meet the demands of busy, barrier-respecting customers who don't have time to take a week off work to peel in privacy!  Our highly effective, skin-friendly peels with minimal downtime is M.O. No.1 for our chemists. Plus, your peel will be tailored to your skin condition, its sensitivity, and your skin goals.

Myth 2: My skin is too sensitive/dry/pale/dark/blemished/marked

Our global skincare experts customise peels for all skin tones, all ages, and a wide range of concerns: discoloration, breakouts, dullness, fine lines, and even sensitive or reactive skin. So whether you're looking to maintain healthy skin or to target something specific, they'll hand-build a safe, effective peel that will deliver results that suit YOU.

Myth 3: I don’t need to do anything before or after

Peels work best as part of a bigger plan, especially when paired with medical-grade home care like our Prep & Enhance Collections. These two kits are specifically created to prepare your skin before your in-clinic treatment, while our Post Procedure Kit (you get one after every peel) will nurture the skin afterward - this is the AlumierMD  360°  approach in action!

Myth 4: It will hurt

When having an AlumierMD peel, some people report a tingling or a slight itchiness around the nose etc, but the sensation is slight. The exact level of sensation will vary depending on the peel type and nature of your treatment - as you progress towards multi-layer peels, you might feel a little more. But your skin fitness will have improved by then so your skin will be up for it. Remember you can always discuss your expectations and ask any questions before the treatment.

Looking to brighten, smooth, clear congestion, firm, target uneven skin tone, and/or reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores? Get your chemical peel booked and kick-off your supporting skincare regimen with your AlumierMD pro now.
